Exchange

Malmö Art Academy has several exchange agreements with art academies abroad and strongly encourage you to study abroad during a period of your education to gain new experiences and perspectives.

The agreements guarantee that the tuition is free of charge and entitles you to study grants. The studies can be credited in your degree, provided that the exchange has been approved. Our contractual partners are located in the Nordic countries, the Baltics, Europe, the USA and Asia. Many of them are part of Erasmus + and KUNO, which means that you can apply for scholarships to finance your stay abroad. If you are interested in an exchange with a school that is not on the list, please contact our international coordinator to investigate the possibilities to set up an agreement.

Incoming

The common language at Malmö Art Academy is English. You will be provided with your own studio during your time with us.

Before you can apply for an exchange with us, the coordinator at your home university needs to nominate you in SoleMove. After the nomination you will receive an email with application instructions. We use an application system called SoleMove. When selecting courses you should select the course: ARTS01 Fine Arts for Exchange Students.

Outgoing

The best period for an exchange with another art academy is in BFA 2 or MFA 1. Normally, exchanges are not granted during years 1 and 3 in BFA or year 2 in MFA. It is important that you communicate your exchange with one of your teachers before you apply. You can be away for one or two semesters.

Please note that our partner universities have different application deadlines and semester periods. Below you will find a list of our partner universities. It is not possible to apply for exchanges within Sweden. You must be prepared to lend out your studio to an incoming exchange student during exchange, even if the semester dates differ.

In addition to Malmö Art Academy’s own agreements, it is possible to apply for exchanges via Lund University. The faculty has assigned places at the University of British Columbia, Canada and University of Melbourne, Australia. In addition, you can apply to the University of California.

Insurance

All students who travel within an exchange agreement are insured through Kammarkollegiet. The insurance is valid from two weeks before to two weeks after the study period and only in the country of the exchange and during direct travels. If you are going to a country within the European Union, you should obtain the European Health Insurance Card via Försäkringskassan.
